Patagonia Repair Guarantee
Patagonia is one of very few companies that guarantee their products with a lifetime guarantee.
Patagonia have an “Ironclad Guarantee” – “We guarantee everything we make. If you are not satisfied with one of our products at the time you receive it, or if one of our products does not perform to your satisfaction, return it to the store you bought it from or to Patagonia for a repair, replacement, or refund.”
To send a Patagonia product in for repair, you need to
complete an online form, providing details of what repair is needed. Patagonia
provide an information screen on what can be repaired. For example, they don’t
repair stains, threadbare items and more than three broken zippers.
Once an item is accepted for repair, Patagonia will repair
free of charge. Patagonia will ship the item back to you with the return
shipping covered by Patagonia. They do expect the item to be washed before
being sent to Patagonia – a not unreasonable expectation!
As part of Repair What We Wear month, I decided to test out the Patagonia guarantee. I had a Patagonia jacket which has a broken zip (shown above). It was at least eight years old. On the 28th September, I filled out the online form with details about my jacket. I received a response the next day advising that it could be fixed at no cost ot me. The only cost was the $24 Australia Post charge to get the item back to Patagonia.
Once the item arrived at the repairers, I got an email confirming its receipt and advising it would take 4-5 weeks to repair, which as no problem for me as it is a winter jacket. As I sent it on 1 October, I am well within the period that they promised to repair. So far, so good. I will update this post when it arrives.

Update: 27 October 2025
I received the repaired jacket back today. They had done a great job of repairing the jacket. They had replaced the zipper with a new one. They had installed a zipper which was the same as Australian jackets (zipper is on the left hand side) - I had originally purchased the jacket in the USA where the zipper is installed on the opposite side. Patagonia had delivered according to their guarantee within 4 weeks - I posted on 1 October and got it back on 27 October. The repairs had been undertaken by a third party, which had been contracted by Patagonia to do repairs.
My only cost was the express post satchel and postage to Patagonia, a cost of $24.25. I probably could have got the zipper repaired at a repair cafe at only the cost of a new zipper but it was good to see that Patagonia deliver on their guarantee.
